When to Visit
Canggu enjoys a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season.
The dry season, from April to October, is considered the peak tourist season, characterized by sunny days, lower humidity levels, and minimal rainfall. This period is ideal for outdoor activities such as surfing, sunbathing, and exploring Canggu’s trendy cafes and beach clubs.
However, this is also when the town experiences the highest number of tourists, resulting in crowded beaches and higher accommodation prices.
On the other hand, the wet season, from November to March, brings occasional rainfall and higher humidity levels, but it also offers fewer crowds and lower prices on accommodation and activities. Plus, the lush green landscapes during this time create a picturesque backdrop for exploring Canggu’s natural beauty.
If you don’t mind occasional rain showers and want to avoid the crowds, visiting Canggu during the wet season can be a great option.
Ultimately, the best time to visit Canggu depends on your preferences for weather, crowds, and budget, but with its laid-back atmosphere and vibrant surf culture, Canggu offers something for every traveler regardless of the season.
Transportation Around Canggu
One of the most common forms of public transport in Canggu is the motorbike taxi, locally known as “ojeks,” which are readily available for short trips and can navigate the town’s narrow streets with ease.
Additionally, travelers can use ride-hailing services like Grab or Gojek, which offer affordable and convenient transportation options to explore nearby attractions or travel to other parts of Bali.
For longer distances or traveling between towns, renting a scooter or motorbike is a popular choice among visitors, providing flexibility and independence to explore Canggu and its surroundings at their own pace.
While public transport options in Canggu may not be as extensive as in larger cities, they still offer convenient ways to navigate the town and discover its beautiful beaches, trendy cafes, and vibrant nightlife.
Accommodation in Canggu
Belajar Bali:
Instagram hotspots have become a popular trend in Canggu and this is probably one of the most famous new additions from the Club Life Design Team. Belajar Bali is truly a little slice of heaven tucked away from the hustle and bustle of busy Canggu. You have everything located at your fingertips but you feel secluded.
BK Village:
One of the best things about the Ubud area is the focus on wellness and tranquility. We had the pleasure of working with BK Village during our stay in Canggu who embodied these perfectly. One of the most beautiful resorts with three large pools all in separate areas surround by lush green foliage. They have an on site restaurant, spa, badminton court, shop and more. We loved taking a cooking class with their master chef!
Canggu Boutique Villas & Spa:
Canggu Boutique Villas were perfectly located for the remainder of our time in Canggu. It was a small private villa with our own pool and outdoor rain shower. Located just outside the main central area of Canggu, you really get a more bang for your buck. It’s an easy scooter ride anywhere you need to go.

Where to Eat in Canggu
Penny Lane
Penny Lane Cafe in Canggu is a charming and eclectic spot that has quickly become a favorite among locals and tourists seeking a unique dining experience in Bali. Known for its elegant decor and cozy atmosphere, Penny Lane offers a delightful menu featuring a blend of international and local dishes.
It is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a leisurely afternoon meal. The cafe’s picturesque setting, adorned with colorful decor and vintage furnishings, makes it an ideal location for capturing Instagram-worthy photos.
Due to its popularity, you might want a reservation depending on the day. I would not recommend the burgers as I think it was too filling and hot for them, but their lighter meals looked incredible.
KYND Community
Kynd Community Cafe in Canggu is a renowned plant-based eatery that has captured the hearts of health-conscious diners and food enthusiasts in Bali.
Known for its vibrant, Instagram-worthy dishes, Kynd Community offers a delightful array of vegan and vegetarian options, including colorful smoothie bowls, fresh salads, and deliciously crafted plant-based burgers.
The cafe’s bright and cheerful decor, featuring tropical murals and a welcoming ambiance, makes it a perfect spot for both casual meals and social gatherings. Committed to promoting sustainability and wellness, Kynd Community not only serves nutritious and tasty food but also inspires a healthy lifestyle.
Sea Circus
Sea Circus Restaurant in Seminyak is a vibrant and eclectic dining hotspot that captures the essence of Bali’s trendy culinary scene. Known for its colorful decor and Instagram-worthy ambiance, this popular eatery offers a diverse menu that includes fresh seafood, gourmet tacos, and healthy smoothie bowls.
Perfect for brunch, lunch, or dinner, Sea Circus combines delightful flavors with a laid-back atmosphere, making it a must-visit for foodies and travelers alike. Be prepared for a bigger price tag compared to other places in the area.
Motel Mexicola
Motel Mexicola in Canggu is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a vibrant and unique dining experience in Bali. This colorful Mexican-inspired restaurant and bar is known for its lively atmosphere, eclectic décor, and delicious cuisine.
Offering a menu filled with authentic Mexican dishes, from tacos and quesadillas to fresh ceviche and churros, Motel Mexicola promises a culinary journey bursting with flavors. The venue’s festive ambiance, complete with retro furnishings, neon lights, and lively music, creates the perfect opportunity to dance the night away. We highly recommend their spicy margaritas at happy hour!
Mad Pops Bali
If you’re looking for a sweet treat to end your night there is no shortage of ice cream places in Canggu. However, Mad Pops had some of my favorite flavors which can be harder to find in this part of the world. It is a very tiny shop with take away only, but the prices are very reasonable and the portions good size.
Menya Kenji
This place was such a surprise. We found it as it was located directly in front of our villas (so lucky). Ramen is one of my all time favorite meals and the first night we arrived, we were tired and wanted something close. This place was incredible! We came back two more times during our stay. The ramen was one of the most flavorful dishes I have ever had anywhere in the world. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Do not miss adding Kenji to your must try food list for Canggu.
Mad Ronin
While on the subject of Ramen, if you want to try another location you can give Mad Ronin a try. It’s located in the heart of Canggu and was a cool place to dine. You can create your own order by mixing and matching. The flavor was pretty good, but it wasn’t as incredible as Kenji. They do offer a window seating option to people watch. This is within walking distance from Belajar and Maja Spa if you are staying or visiting those locations.
Black Sand Brewery
My husband’s love for the asian food is slightest less than mine which would be happy to eat it from breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. As a result, we compromised by often eating at more western establishments by the time we reached Indonesia.
One thing we both love is craft beer and this is a good place to visit if you are also feeling like you want something more western during your visit. The food was all pretty good but the appetizer sizes were a bit small. Service was also a little lacking as we had to flag people down a few times. If you just want a chill atmosphere and are not in a rush, you will enjoy this place.
Bull’s Coffee
Another happy find thanks to its location being directly in front of our villas. Bull’s coffee was the perfect breakfast spot for our first morning. They have a wide variety of coffees and drinks to choose from. The iced caramel coffee was quite good. Their breakfast options run the normal range of a bakery and they have bagel sandwiches, which is what we choose. I thought they were good but not incredible. I believe the pastry options are the better choice.
Additional Recommendations:
- Brunch Club Bali : We didn’t personally visit but it is highly rated and mentioned by others as a great spot for brunch.
- LowCal Cheatery and Bar: We didn’t personally visit but it is highly rated and mentioned by others. This is a vegan and healthy focused location.
Pomelo Cafe – PERMANTELY CLOSED
This was my absolute favorite cafe in 2019. The atmosphere is amazing, the food phenomenal. You walk in and see a tree covered in tea cups, continue back to find a small pool and lots of comfortable seats. We actually ate here a few times because it was so amazing. The French toast was to die for and the smoothie bowls were so fresh!
Beach Clubs & Bars in Canggu
FINNS
Finns’ is another often recommended beach club as it has become one of the hottest party spots in town. by day it is a beach club where you can relax, enjoy the coastal view and sip on cocktails. As the day progresses, it becomes more and more vibrant leading into some of the largest parties on the island.
What I need to stress is go there for drinks and atmosphere, NOT FOOD. Both of my friends ended up getting severe food poisoning and missing the wedding they came for in 2019 because of bad sushi from Finns. I had a single piece from their plate and I also got sick for about 24 hours.
I have heard multiple stories from other travelers who have also been ill after eating here so my tip is stay clear from the food (especially fish) and just enjoy the drinks and atmosphere.
La Brisa
La Brisa Beach Club in Canggu is a premier seaside destination that combines rustic charm with luxurious relaxation, making it a must-visit spot in Bali. Situated along the stunning Echo Beach, La Brisa offers breathtaking ocean views, a vibrant yet laid-back atmosphere, and eco-friendly design elements crafted from reclaimed wood and other sustainable materials.
Visitors can enjoy a diverse menu featuring fresh seafood, tropical cocktails, and delectable local and international cuisine while lounging in one of the many cozy seating areas or taking a dip in the inviting pool. With its picturesque setting, lively events, and commitment to sustainability, La Brisa Beach Club stands out as an essential destination for anyone looking to experience the best of Canggu’s coastal lifestyle.
Bonus: across the street is a market with lots of nice things for reasonable prices, be ready to negotiate and willing to walk away.
Old Man’s
Old Man’s in Canggu is a legendary beachfront bar and restaurant that has become an iconic spot for both locals and tourists seeking a vibrant and laid-back atmosphere in Bali. Located right on Batu Bolong Beach, Old Man’s offers stunning ocean views, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. Known for its lively social scene, delicious food, and refreshing cocktails, Old Man’s hosts daily events and themed parties that draw a diverse crowd. Whether you’re enjoying a post-surf beer, savoring a hearty meal, or dancing the night away to live music, Old Man’s provides a place for all.
The Lawn
The Lawn is a beach club that has some of the most spectacular sunsets on the island. It’s packed every night and all night long. They have pools, lounge chairs, bench chairs , and tons of beach space (some with swings) all to have a drink and watch the sun paint the sky. Like most beach clubs, the earlier you arrive, the better spot you will have for the evening.
La Favela
La Favela Bali is the coolest bars I have ever been to. It’s huge, it has so many different rooms to explore with different atmospheres. There’s about three floor levels as well and we spent probably half an hour just walking around looking at all the amazing things in the different areas. Also would highly recommend their espresso martinis! I first visited in 2019 and now in 2024 it is still one of the most popular places in Canggu for nightlife.
Bikini
Bikini Restaurant was also a cool bar we found. They had good cocktails, a bit more on the pricey side. The bathroom though was my favorite part. The whole thing is full of mirrors floor to ceiling and they have different sayings in each and every stall.
Dirty Black Cat MiniMart – PERMANTELY CLOSED
One Dirty Black Cat is a speak easy that my friend has recommended to her. It is hidden in a “broken refrigerator” in a tiny grocery like mini martshop. You would never know it is there unless someone tells you about it first. You walk through a refrigerator in the back to a hidden lounge room. The bar itself is quite small but they have pool tables and some booths.
Top Activities in Canggu
There are plenty of excursions you can take from Canggu. Many people choose to use it as a home base location to explore the rest of the island with day trips. Some of the more popular locations to visit are Ubud, Sideman or some of the Islands such as Nusa Penida. You can read our reviews for all of these places and more!
Best Beaches in Canggu
Betu Bolong
One of the best beaches to catch incredible sunsets is Beau Bolong Beach. many of the popular beach clubs are located here. Be prepared for the crowds and try to get to the clubs early for a good spot. Or, you can opt to walk along the beach which will also be quite crowded.
