TOPRUM sky & bar : Budapest

Brunch is life. I live for brunch. It’s honestly my favorite hobby and I admire any meal that encourages the drinking of champagne at any hour of the day. So naturally, when I visit cities I always try to find some of the best brunch places. Toprum popped up on many recommendation list and I can see why. It’s located in a very nice hotel and gives an axing rooftop view without having to brave the elements so can be enjoyed year round. The roof is retractable so it opens up in the warmer months.

DECOR:

The Moment I walked in I was obsessed. There are plants EVERYWHERE. Hanging from the ceilings, lining the windows and shelves. All the wooden tables and booths with mid century modern chic chairs , some covered in fur with pin hair legs while others are rustic leather with gold finished frames. Some bohemian printed pillows scattered around give it a comfy touch and the Edison bulbs are the finishing touch for me.

AMBIANCE:

The whole experience I felt classy but cozy. I love rooftop bars and cafes so much and this has the best of both worlds with the view and the cozy cafe indoors. The music is a reasonable level and they played a variety of genres but nothing mainstream.

SERVICE:

The waitress was absolutely lovely! She was so kind and helped with recommendations. They are a bit slow there was only one other table when we arrived early on a Saturday and we waited a while for our food but if you’re not in a rush and just wanted to relax for a brunch, this wasn’t too bad.

TASTE:

Bellini: the Bellini wasn’t quite what I expected. It comes with tiny lavender flowers but they take away from the sweetness of the peach juice.

Strawberry lemonade: this was delicious! The sweetness is just right and it’s so refreshing.

Pastrami sandwich: HOLY SMOKES. This monster sandwich is jaw dropping when they bring it out. Cheese is flowing out, with caramelized onions, pickles and a spicy Dijon mustard sauce with a horseradish kick. It’s topped with a little balsamic and the only issue is how to attack this delicious monster of a sandwich.

Crouqe madam: my partner ordered and it he enjoyed it. He kept repeating “a lot of cheese” over and over. Top quality ham with a delicious bread (it looked like cornmeal to me but I can’t be sure). Had a little tang and a kick so maybe also had some horseradish.

Waffle: the waffle comes with blackberry, blueberries, oranges, powdered sugar, chocolate cream and a ginger lime sauce. It is the perfect finishing dessert after a savory meal. We split it and even though it was only a half waffle, not a whole we both seemed full by the end of sharing the half.

Toprum sky bar was absolutely one of the best places we have ever gone in Budapest. Total: 9/10
