Bepa: Split

A friend we met on our boat trip told us to try the restaurant with the roses around the front door. We came across it on our search for food and wow, this cafe was busy! The first thing we saw were these amazing racks of skewers being served. They looked impressive so we decided we wanted to give it a try. They have mostly outside seating and limited inside seating. It’s located in the lovely main courtyard amongst the Diocletian’s Palace ruins. If you want a decent meal, and not directly on the Riva but still in the center of life, this is a great place to try!

SERVICE:

As I mentioned they were quite busy. It took a while for seats to become available and then a while for the waiter to come to our table. Therefore, we decided to make sure we had everything ordered the first time he came so we didn’t need to wait longer. Sadly it didn’t work. The drinks took quite a while to come out, the food took a long time and my skewers came out after the rest of the food had been eaten. The staff was friendly but it wasn’t the best service we had in Split by a long shot.

TASTE:

Cesar salad:

Honestly the highlight of the meal was the unexpected, underdog- the salad! Wow, was this a delicious surprise. The chicken was tender and the sauce was fantastic!

Vegan tacos:

The tacos came filled with an assortment of veggies and chickpeas with a side of fried cauliflower and bbq sauce. They were tasty.

Shrimp skewers:

The main reason we wanted to try this place was the assortment of skewers we saw. I decided to go with shrimp since we were on the coast and I love seafood. However these were not as impressive as I hoped they would be. The shrimp was a little too fishy tasting for me (and that’s coming from someone who likes most types of fish). All skewers comes with grilled veggies and in my opinion those were the best part of the skewers set.
