Bratislava: A Guide to Slovakia’s Historic Capital

Bratislava: A Guide to Slovakia’s Historic Capital

Bratislava

My partner and I took a day trip to Bratislava from Klagenfurt. It’s a simple drive from here and there were no difficulty with the border. Keep in mind that it was December and very very cold. So we didn’t do as much as you could do during a warmer season. However , we did visit Christmas markets which are always cool to see in different cities. Here’s what we will cover in our day trip article:

Things to do in Bratislava

We started the day off by visiting Bratislava castle. Usually you get a great view of the river and city as well as the UFO bridge. Sadly it was extremely foggy that morning and visibility was basically zero. I guess it made a moody backdrop.

Where to Eat

We then decided to look for a place to grab some brunch. We stumbled upon a cat cafe which was amazing! It’s called Mačkafé which literally translates to cat cafe. There’s tons of cats that freely roam and will come to snuggle in your lap or jump on your table. (If you have a germ issue might not be the best for you). I loved this cafe, the hot chocolate and milkshakes were very tasty !

We then went to a sports bar called Crowne Plaza and grabbed some lunch. It was alright , overall not my favorite but the beer was good .

Then we decided to stroll around the town and look at the Christmas markets. I really wanted to find some of the famous statues. The Kaffee Meyer statue and then the pothole man. It is said to bring luck if you touch his head or get you pregnant if you touch his nose.

We ended our trip in the most instagram-able cafe I’ve ever seen. It’s called Pink Garden and honestly it’s pretty cool. They have a friends style blue velvet couch, fancy Victorian chairs and comfy love seats. All of which are surrounded by flower walls, flower bears and flower arches. We indulged and got a glass of champagne, a got chocolate, a beautiful cupcake and a rainbow cake slice! They were all delicious.
