Jessas Eis – 9.5/10

This has to be one of my all time favorite places for a sweet treat in Munich. It is a tiny ice cream shop that doesn’t look like much from the street. However, where they shine is in their unique flavors. My absolute favorite is Pancake ice cream ! It’s buttery, creamy and just the right amount of sweet.

Marys Coffee Club– 9/10

This is a super popular cafe and very stylish, trendy vibes. We didn’t know the when we arrived and were lucky there was a seat open at one of the high top sharing tables. Shorty after we arrived a huge line outside formed very quickly. Everything is beautiful presented, instagram style approved ad thankful the flavors were up to par with the aesthetics. My fiancé had the Nutella, chocolate fruit waffles while I had the avocado and egg breakfast sandwich with beetroot. I think mine was incredible and I would order it again in a heart beat.

Tang Asianfusion Tapas – 8.5/10

I love asian, I love fusion and of course you put them together I am a happy girl! Now I am not saying all fusion places get it right, trust me a lot do not! However, I think Tang Asianfusion Tapas walked the line well as they mostly focus on asian styled food but in the tapas format. We enjoyed everything that we ordered, but I will say some of the portions could be larger. Here is a breakdown of what we had and the prices.

  • Pflaumen Spritz 6.90€
  • Holunder Spritz 6.90€
  • Chicken Dumplings Curry 5 St. 6.90€
  • Hausgemachte Frühlingsrolle (spring rolls) 4st. 6.90€
  • HihnerspieBe (chicken skewers) 2 st. 6.90€
  • Pork Dumplings dämpfen 5 St. 6.90€

Take it or Leave it while in Munich

Mr Pancake – 7/10

Ironically this is where my fiancé wanted to go when he picked me up from the airport after I returned from home in the United States. Yes, I flew all the way back to Europe to have American styled breakfast. Overall it was very tasty and we would go back again. The service was great and the staff very friendly. The place is quite small inside but very cozy. My fiancé loves his sweets and really enjoyed his Nutella, banana pancakes while I went for the more traditional breakfast plate.

Victorian House– 6.5/10

If you find yourself craving a little English charm or dining then you can stroll over to the Victorian House. They have 3 locations in the city including a Sconery and Tea to go shop. We had not made plans for this meal and just stumbled into the area. I will warn you it is not on the cheap price side so if you’re looking for budget then maybe skip this one on your trip. Their tea is very good and I do recommend it as your drink of choice, even though my cappuccino was good as well. The food is pretty good, nothing spectacular but still very enjoyable. I was really disappointed as they had run out of scones and lemon curd (which is my favorite).

My fiancé ordered the St James which is your somewhat typical style English breakfast of eggs, bacon and beans. I ordered the Dorset Eggs Benedict and I think my meal was the winner. Here is the price breakdown for our meal.

  • Dorset Egg Benedict €16.90
  • St James €16.90
  • VH Peaxh Garden pot of tee €6.80
  • Cappuccino €4.80

Contidiano (Promenadeplatz) – 7.5/10

Another very popular spot, with lines forming on the weekend mornings. We had a little wait when we arrived and noticed how busy it was getting quickly behind us. The service is very quick and you can tell they are used to a lot of people waiting. Staff was friendly, responsive and helpful with recommendations. The croissants are very good and pretty big in size, They have great smoothies and iced coffees. we would probably eat here again as they had a good variety of options on the menu and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals around us.

Skip it , Munich has better

Taverna Balkoni aka Zero – 2/10

I was so excited for this place as I haven’t had hotpot in a very very long time. They have different options for the soup base (1, 2 or 3) and we choose 2. I ordered the curry and my fiancé ordered the tomato base. We each ordered a portion of the udon and then two types of meats to split. The chicken was decent but these meat balls were HORRIBLE. They basically were inedible, and never cooked properly (I mean they stayed rock hard).

Thankfully the staff was very kind and took it off the bill for us. We also weren’t given the correct utensils until almost the end of the meal so it was a little difficult to remove the udon from the hotpot which became frustrating. Battling your meal to eat just was not what we had in mind that evening. I do think we could have just had a rough experience, so if you truly love hotpot and want to give it a go then that’s your call! Here is the price break down of our meal.

  • €10 for 2 soups
  • €4.5 for each udon
  • €6.50 per meat

In conclusion, Munich’s culinary scene offers a tantalizing array of flavors and experiences that celebrate the rich traditions and diverse influences of Bavarian cuisine. From hearty sausages and pretzels enjoyed in bustling beer gardens to fine dining establishments serving innovative takes on traditional dishes, there’s something to satisfy every palate in this vibrant city.

Whether you’re indulging in classic favorites like schnitzel and spaetzle or exploring new culinary trends and flavors, Munich’s food scene promises an unforgettable gastronomic journey. So, whether you’re a local or a visitor, be sure to savor every bite and raise a glass to the delicious delights that make Munich a true culinary destination.
