Location & Accessibility
Description of the hotel’s location
Located next to the vibrant Khao San Road, The Ember Hotel stands as the premier choice for your stay in the heart of Old Bangkok. We stayed in multiple districts in the city and this one blew us away compared to all the rest. We felt as if we were truly in the heart of the city. The area felt extremely safe, tons of locals around plus a few hostels with other tourist made us feel right at home. Below you can see the location in relation to many of the main attractions in the area.
Proximity to transportation hubs, attractions, and amenities
The Ember is truly in a prime location for site-seeing and daily necessities. Directly in front of the hotel, the street is lined with local vendors selling food, clothes and plenty more. We bought a wonderful pair of linen shorts literally right outside the front door, where else do you get that! Around the corner you have mini-marts and of course our favorite – 7 eleven – at your disposal. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants on the surrounding streets as well.
You are within quick walking distance of the vibrant Khao San Road which is full of street vendors, cafes, bars and wild night life for all. Here you can find all the local favorites plus the more unique variations such as scorpions, bugs and even live jumping shrimp. On your way to Khao San we suggest you check out our favorite spot in the entire city – Rambuttri Village and Plaza. This area has some of the most laid back restaurants, street vendors and unique bars we’ve come across. There’s not one, but two hippie van bars on this set of streets. The second one, located next to the Olive Kitchen was our favorite! I highly recommend you try out the Thailand Fantasy. This is also right across from a bamboo tattoo shop and an art gallery with stunning pieces of street art made by two deaf men!
Attractions
The Ember is also in close proximity to renowned historic attractions including the majestic Grand Palace, the revered Wat Pho and the awe-inspiring Wat Arun. You can reach Chinatown and many other districts all within half an hour. If you want to be close to some of the most beautiful sites in Bangkok, you couldn’t ask for a better location.
Transportation
Transportation is easy in this area as well. We mostly used Grab during our trip in Bangkok, but while staying at the Ember, due to its prime location we were able to take a few tuk-tuk rides for the same price as the car service would have been. You can easily do both during your trip! There is also public transportation to get around the further parts of the city.

Workspace availability and quality
If you are visiting Bangkok on business and need to get a little work done while at the Ember you have two options for the best workspaces available. The first is that every room is equipped with a small desk and stool with wall outlets and USB outlets right at your connivence. If you’re like me, then maybe you even enjoy working from the comforts of bed occasionally.
The second option, if you prefer to change locations or work near other people is the community space area located on the ground floor in the Tani BKK restaurant on site. Every table is equipped with its own outlet so you never have to worry about being disconnected.
Internet speed and reliability
We never encountered any issues regarding the internet speed or reliability. We were constantly uploading, downloading and streaming during our stay. I had tons of work to catch up on and managed to get the majority of it done while we were here.
Noise levels and privacy
Privacy at the Ember is wonderful. Each floor can only be accessed by the elevator by scanning your room key card. The key cards will not take you to any floor you are not staying on. The elevator can be accessed without a key card, but only on the first floor for the restaurant and the top floor for the rooftop Sanay Bar. The front desk is always manned and we were greeted by friendly faces every time we returned back to the hotel.
Noise levels will vary depending the location of your room. Our first room was on the top floor located right under the rooftop bar and right next to the rooftop bar located in the building next door. On weekends it can be quite loud. The neighbors started playing very loud base music around 16:00 and when we inquired with the front desk they told us it would be expected until midnight. If you’re like me and the sound of a pin dropping can wake you up, I would recommend asking to be on the third floor or lower and on the opposite end of the bar. They were kind enough to move rooms for us and we had zero issues after this.
Facilities & Services
On-site facilities such as gyms, pools, co-working spaces, etc.
Restaurants
The Ember has two on site restaurants. The first is their ground floor restaurant,Tani.BKK Restaurant & Bar, open daily, from 7:00 AM to 02:00 AM. All-day dining restaurant and bar draw inspiration from Thai roots whilst infusing light touches from international origins, offering a delightful haven where you can fully indulge in exquisite culinary creations. The name ‘Tani’ is a tribute to the historic Tani Road, paying homage to the culinary heritage of Japanese immigrants settled in the area by incorporating the ‘Open Fire Grill Concept’ into their signature cooking method.
This is also where breakfast is served for hotel guests. In the evening this turns into a vibrant Winebar with a variety of local and imported selections at very reasonable prices. Everyone is welcome, there is no dress code and you can have a luxury feeling experience mixed with the casual and laid back ambiance.
The second is the Sanay rooftop bar. Perched on top of the Tani neighbourhood, Sanay Rooftop Bar is the perfect vantage point for breathtaking sunset views of Old Bangkok. As one of the few rooftop bars in Khao San, you have the unique opportunity to view the mesmerizing sight of Wat Saket and Wat Chana Songkram peeking through, as you unwind and soak in the ambience. On most nights there is live acoustic music from local artist. It’s the perfect place to escape the chaos of the busy Bangkok streets and simply relax and enjoy an evening in the sky.
Gym
There is a small on-site gym located on the rooftop, next to the Sanay bar. While it is modest in size, it has what you need. There is a treadmill, sitting stationary bike and a decent weight selection. There’s also a bench, yoga mat, a few kettle bells, complimentary water and towels, but most importantly AC.
Quality of services provided (housekeeping, front desk, etc.)
The staff are all wonderful and keep the place running smoothly. Beds are freshly made and new towels, glasses and things are provided each morning if you request them. However they offer a more eco-friendly option of letting you reuse until you need. Front desk is always manned and in the evenings there is a doorman. Reception can be called easily from the room and the staff are incredible and welcoming. Everyone was so kind and ready to help with anything we needed.
Value for Money
Pricing compared to similar accommodations in the area
One of the best things about The Ember is how affordable they truly are! When we saw the price compared to the quality, we assumed it had to be a mistake. You get the boutique, urban hotel quality accommodation for a bargain price tag! There are some hostels on the same street nearby if you really want to go full blown budget, but I could never justify staying in a hostel when the price of this top level hotel is a steal.
Inclusion of value-added services or perks
There are a few bonus perks for guests staying at the Ember. First, you get breakfast included. The food is great quality that fills you up. Second, you receive a free drink voucher per person upon check in to be used at the Sanay Rooftop Bar. There’s one cocktail, one mocktail and one juice option to choose from. There is also a one time mini bar usage included which comes with a coke and sprite, while the water can be refilled daily. The gym facility is included in your stay as well, no extra fees. They do offer laundry services for a fee.
Our Experience & Thoughts
Personal experience and impressions
While this was a collaboration partnership, we are always honest and transparent in our reviews. We truly enjoyed every aspect of our stay at the Ember and would return anytime we come back to Bangkok. The location is one of the best in the city (our personal favorite) and gives you easy access to the heart of the capital. The staff are incredible, the food and drinks delicious and the accommodation is wonderful. We would highly recommend the Ember to anyone visiting Bangkok.
Recommendations and tips for future guests
Check out the local vendors in front of the hotel. They have incredible prices and some very unique items available. Male sure to build in time to explore the neighborhood. There is so much to do and see in this area and you should take full advantage of it. If you want to visit Khao San, head there around 19:00 before it gets crazy and experience it as it gets wilder throughout the night. If you are approached by someone selling Ping-Pong shows, please know this isn’t an actual Ping-Pong game…. do a little research before you commit 😉

Contact details and booking information
You can always compare prices on different sites or on the Ember Hotels direct website. They have a “lowest price” guarnteed on their website so it is worth checking to price match. The staff are incredible, very responsive and can help with any inquiries you may have. We would absolutely love to stay at The Ember again when we return to Bangkok.
