Top 7 Places to eat in Miskolc, Hungary
Miskolc is not a hot spot for food if I am being honest. The lack of options (let alone variety) was a little disheartening when we moved in for the season. However, we were fortune enough to live right in the center of town, giving us a prime location to the few places we came to know and love. Here are my top 7 recommendations for places to eat in Miskolc, Hungary.
Impresszo: This is by far our favorite spot. When we first arrived my partner told me it was a must go to location because he had one of the best burritos ever here while on a road trip with his hockey team. He was not wrong! This place is amazing because the food is always high quality and the price is extremely affordable. Most meals cost at most ~€8 and some are around €5/6. They also offer seasonal menus (which are my favorite) and these ranged up to €12 at most. The variety of food they offer is also a bonus. They have traditional Mexican, Hungarian and Italian style courses. The staff became friends and were always welcoming (some speak English quite well). If you’re in the area, this is my top recommendation!

Sonny’s Grill & Pizza: This became a group go to for many events. They have a large drink selection and offer food from pizza, pasta, burgers, steaks and traditional Hungarian dishes. The prices are reasonable but are on the pricey side for the town. The staff are extremely friendly and we never had a bad meal or experience here.

Balance Taste Gallery: Brunch people rejoice! There is in fact a place to get brunch while visiting Miskolc. If you’re looking for poached eggs, omelette or even something sweeter for breakfast, this is my recommendation. The weekends are busy and you might even need a reservation. Weekday mornings are perfect if you have the time. Prices are affordable and the food is quite good.

Zip’s Beer & Tapas: If you are a craft beer and tapas fan, look no further! Other than Impresszo, this was my favorite place to be. It’s hard to compare the two because they each have their strong points, so I might say it’s actually a tie. If you like craft beer they have a good selection and a rotating menu so you can try new things throughout the year. The tapas are all delicious but a little smaller than you’d like (I know, tapas are supposed to be small) but they aren’t too expensive, so order a few and you’re good to go! In the warmer months sitting outside by the little canal is a great way to spend an evening. They also have a larger restaurant called the brewhouse which serves full size meals and beer on tap at your table! The beer selection is more limited here though.

Lokalista: This is your pretty typical bistro. It’s a bit pricier than other places but you can sit outside and take your time. The staff were a bit less helpful here but I think the language barrier was more the issue. Some staff speak English and they do have English menus. If you’re in town a few days and want to try something new, add this to your list.

Bitang Joe’s : Burger time! Yes, even Miskolc has a burger joint. A delicious one at that! It’s a “build your own” style menu with some favorite options as well, plus a side of fries, steak fries or onion rings.

La Cantina Taqueria : If you’re like me, you are always looking for a good place to find Mexican food. La Cantina Taqueria is the only place I found that is completely devoted to Mexican dishes only. However, I think the quality of food depends on the cook of the day. We had success 2/3 times here where our food was very tasty, and once where it was just eh. The prices are reasonable and it’s a much smaller place if you’re wanting a bit quieter if an atmosphere (if it’s not a weekend night).

PKV: also known as Pizza,Kávé,Világbéke , this is my bonus place as they serve crazy varieties of specialty pizzas! The atmosphere is also pretty cool.
