Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich, Switzerland :

Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited. The natural beauty is hard to beat with the green mountains, valleys and stunning crystal lakes. Many people visit for the purpose of hiking through this amazing scenery and one day I hope to do that as well. There is so much of the country I cannot wait to explore, including taking one of the most scenic train rides in the world.

However, the capital city of Zurich is also a frequently visited destination of course. This is where I flew for a New Years Eve girls trip in 2019. One of my friends has family in Switzerland and was kind enough to let us stay at their family hotel. Unfortunately at the time I wasn’t taking extensive notes for reviews but I managed to capture a few things that were worth sharing!

SITES:

Saint Gallen:

this small town is adorable during the holidays. All the streets have cute lights and trees decorated around all of the churches.

Herisau:

this is a cute place where they had an authentic parade/ show.

Lake Zurich:

this lake gives you that perfect mountain lake vibe during the winter. There are boats you can rent during the warmer months and tons of docks and places to sit and enjoy the view and the weather.

Gerold Chuchi:

Theres the Gerold Chuchi art installation that you have probably seen around social media of the hanging umbrellas. I know there are a few around the world but I happen to find this one (it’s not in a prominent location and it’s not as big as you would expect). It’s a cool thing to check out and snap a quick photo.

Zunfthaus zur Zimmerleuten:

this was our one expensive meal for the whole trip. My roommate and I wanted a proper Swiss fondue experience so we book a table for about €40 and had way more food than we could handle. As most people would agree, I recommend a fondue house if you visit Switzerland.

New Years Eve:

The whole city shows up for New Year’s Eve. There are a ton of bars to visit but honestly we had the most fun out on the streets. They have street concerts, where everyone is dancing in huge groups having the best time. On almost every street, there are pop up bars for drinks and food and the best part is the fireworks show over the lake. We have an amazing view!

We only were here for around 2.5 days and managed to do a lot during that time. If you’re looking to go for a long weekend you can probably see a lot of the city but of course you could do more during the warmer months. It’s a cute city and I can’t wait to go back to Switzerland to enjoy the countryside next!
